The Child Molesters: 1978 Hound Dog Recordings 12"
40th year anniversary edition of this classic 1978 session!
This 4 song 12'' ep captures The Child Molesters at their most vile and hideous. Ace and Duce/Negative Jazz have brought this back to life from the original reel. 500 pressed. Liner notes by "Tork Lugnutz".
Our take: Four-song 12ā of vintage recordings from these California KBD provocateurs. Unless Iām mistaken, these tracks were first released in 1981 as a 12ā called Wir Lieben Die Jugendlich MƤdchen (with much cooler artwork IMHO), then as a double 7ā on Sympathy for the Record Industry (with artwork far more tasteless than what you see here). If youāve only heard the bandās classic ā(Iām the) Hillside Strangler,ā this is very much the same band⦠like that track, these songs are mean, nasty, and provocative, essentially the late 70s equivalent of what an internet troll might do today. However, the recordings on these tracks give them a very different vibe. Whereas āHillside Stranglerā is super dense and fuzzy, these tracks have a clearer, more professional recording. While they probably sound ābetterā by most peopleās definition, to me they donāt have the same sonic impact as the single, though they do allow the bandās personality to shine through much more clearly. Whether or not thatās a good thing depends on your interest in the kind of provocation that the Child Molesters traded in⦠theyāre very much into playing the heel, and while itās clear that they rankled some feathers in their day, some of the imagery that they were playing with has become downright taboo in the nearly 30 years since these songs were originally recorded. To me, this probably goes more in the āhistorical curiosityā category than the ātotal ragerā category, but if youāre into the deeper history of the KBD world this is certainly an interesting release.
