Our take: Debut 7" from this band out of Philadelphia. When I first listened to S-21 I was immediately reminded of Hoax... S-21 has a really similar vibe, with heavy, mosh-able riffs, primitive caveman drumming, but also an undercurrent of a slightly artsy vibe. As with Hoax, that shows up most apparently in the lead guitar playing, and while S-21's leads aren't as intriguingly off-kilter as Hoax's, they do crop up more often, giving all of the tracks that little extra something rather than just reserving it for one special track. Philadelphia has a fertile scene as of late, and S-21 are without a doubt one of the most exciting bands to come from it.
