Only a handful of bands have been abhorred more than No Trend were during their brief tenure on the D.C. hardcore circuit. Founded to bewilder and antagonize the harDCore scene,(which the band felt was guilty of the same conformity that punk intended to rebel against) No Trend crafted an abrasive, dirge-industrial sound impossible to āslam danceā to. Their first self-released single āTeen Loveā is a prime document of the band at their most cantankerous, with tracks like āCancerā and āMass Sterilization Caused By Venereal Diseaseā. The B-side title track, No Trendās biggest hit if there ever was one, tells a bizarre pop tale of a budding teenage romance which violently and abruptly ends in a fiery car crash (āhe was decapitated in an explosion of flame and glass fragmentsā). Few bands had a sense of humor as dark as No Trendās -- but they're not laughing with you, theyāre laughing at you.
