Mind Dweller: Kick Out The Amps Motherfucker! cassette
New tape from Raleigh's resident joint-smokin', party-rockin' punks. 3 previously unreleased tracks, leftover copies from their 2018 East Coast tour!
Our take: Limited 3-song cassette pressed up for Mind Dwellerâs recent mini-tour with Richmondâs Sinister Purpose. In case you donât remember Mind Dwellerâs earlier tape on Sorry State, the quick description is that theyâre an Annihilation Time-style rocked-out punk band (or punked-out rock band), but thereâs so much diversity in their sound I donât think that does the band justice. Thatâs true even on this brief, 3-track cassette. The opener, âDos Exx,â is as close to a prototypical Mind Dweller track as youâll find with its big main riff and more agile, Thin Lizzy-style runs on the chorus. âInvoluntary Trapâ is a standout for being the rare pure hardcore track in Mind Dwellerâs catalog. It reminds me of Government Warning, not just in its speed and precision, but also in how the band uses their songwriting and arranging chops to elevate what might otherwise be a straightforward track into something special. The third and final track, âGreed Mania,â gives us more blistering hardcore, but the songâs highlight is the early Iron Maiden-style twin lead guitar in the middle section. Letâs hope this tape is the precursor to more Mind Dweller material hitting the streets soon, because this one is straight fire.
