Long Knife: Night of The Hunter 7"
Well shit, PDX's 21st century Kings of Punk have graced us with yet another slab of the hardcore punk perfection that they've been crafting for quite some time now! The world we live in has changed considerably since 2017's "Sewers of Babylon" EP and that is reflected in these two songs that serve as a precursor to the band's forthcoming and long awaited full length. While keeping to the tried and true hardcore punk formula that has served as a sonic vessel for numerous trips around the circuit there are some far more rocking elements in the mix this go around which is just a taste of what is to come. Each record comes in a full color glue pocket sleeve featuring a rather arousing back cover.
Our take: Portlandâs Long Knife return with this new two-song single, their first new material since 2017âs Sewers of Babylon EP on Beach Impediment. If youâve heard Long Knife, you already know they bear an uncanny resemblance to Feel the Darkness-era Poison Idea with their driving, mid-paced style, rocked-out lead guitar, and (most importantly) vocalist who is a dead ringer for Jerry A. If you loved their previous records, I doubt youâll be disappointed in Night of the Hunter, though there are a few new wrinkles. The a-side has some vocal parts that are almost crooned (!!!), while âRough Liverâ is overflowing with riffs that squeeze hints of rockabilly and neo-classical metal into the bandâs well-honed style. There probably wonât ever be a piece of writing about Long Knife that doesnât mention Poison Idea, but rather than just sounding like PI, theyâve taken to heart that bandâs way of pushing at the boundaries of their sound without losing sight of what made them great
