JJ And The A's: S/T 7"
JJ and the Aās release their debut 6 track EP and itās a barrage of punk nuggets that explode out of the speaker. The treble is on full and the bass down low as the Danish/Barcelona powerpunk band unleash hell and fury. This is punk from the golden eras of the late 70ās and early 80ās and even a bit of early 90ās from people who have been involved in hardcore scene for all of their adult lives. Itās relentless and is an absolute fireball of speed and energy. Think a mix of Gorilla Angreb, Screamers, Spits, Rip Off Records and those classic Killed by Death 7ās that now are worth thousands. Get your dancing shoes on and enjoy every last second of this gem that came out of nowhere. (Sean Forbes)
Our take: Blistering, hooky punk from this Copenhagen / Barcelona band on their debut 6-song 7ā. The labelās description mentions the Spits and Rip Off Records and I hear that in the jittery 16th notes, but itās tinny in an almost industrial way that makes me think of Metal Urbain or the Screamers. As important as the frantic rhythms and noisy textures are the hooky vocals, which are bathed in distortion but brimming with melody. I also love that there are six songs here... theyāre in and out quickly, but cover a lot of range, from the bashing hardcore tracks like āShow Meā to the more tuneful āHead in a Vatā and the brooding āThe Shrew.ā Energy, hooks, distortion⦠whatās not to like?
