Fuckin' Lovers: Electric Lover Demo cassette
Total Confuse-style noise punk from Philly.Ā Ā
Our take: Demo cassette from this new band out of Philadelphia featuring most of Allergy, whom you may remember from a handful of ripping noise-punk records over the past few years. Fuckinā Lovers played a killer set here in North Carolina a few days ago and I grabbed copies of the tape for the SSR faithful. While Fuckinā Lovers take inspirationĀ from the same Japanese noise-punk sounds as Allergy (e.g. Confuse, Gai, etc.), Fuckinā Lovers also represents a subtle stylistic shift. First, instead of having a stand-alone vocalist, the bassist and guitarist share vocal duties, often engaging in memorable back-and-forth trade-offs that add an extra layer of excitement to the songs. Second, Fuckinā Lovers inject a Swankys-esque sense of fun into their songs. While theyāre not as over the top pogo-punk as, say, Sad Boys, allowing the bass to carry the melody makes these songs jump out, and the melodic quality to the bass lines makes for an intriguing contrast with the guitarās total noise assault and the drumsā relentless pounding. Fuckinā Lovers work within stylistic boundaries here, but theyāre finding their own place within them and honing their unique take.
