The rebirth ofĀ EarthĀ resulted in the band signing with Southern Lord and releasing the essentialĀ HexĀ in 2005. Working alongsideĀ HexĀ producerĀ Randall Dunn, the band then entered AVAST! studios (whereĀ Earth2Ā was recorded) and began laying down 2008's monumentalĀ The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull. The mainstay core ofĀ Dylan CarlsonĀ andĀ Adrienne DaviesĀ collaborated and wrote material withĀ Steve Moore,Ā Don McGreevy, and legendary guitaristĀ Bill Frissell. The musical direction was more focused thanĀ HexĀ with the band moving into more of a rock/American Gospel oriented and improvisatory direction framed by a truly psychedelic production. It remains the group's most successful album and many tracks are still performed live to this day.Ā This new 2018 reissue contains theĀ exclusive bonus track: "Junkyard Priest"Ā (featuring Milky Burgess on slide guitar). The audio wasĀ specifically mastered for vinyl, theĀ lacquers were cut by Bob WestonĀ (Shellac) and the 2LP-set comes housed in a beautiful "old style" Stoughton gatefold jacket.
