Aquarian Blood: Warlock Cock 7" (new)

Screeching, frantic dark cult rock and roll from Memphis. Attention Freeks! Watch out Theefs! Get lost in the whirl and surrender your will to Aquarian Blood.

Our take: Two song single of noisy, propulsive garage from this Memphis band. Aquarian Blood remind me quite a lot of their fellow Memphians Nots... the vocals have a similar quality (which sounds kind of like a cult chanting to me for some reason) and the music is similarly explosive. While I don't hear much synth on the a-side, the occasional whooshes of reverb and feedback are very much akin to the synth swells in many of Nots' songs, and it does sound like there's a synth prominent in the mix on the b-side. Despite the passing similarities to Nots, the recording is much rougher and nastier, which gives this a more confrontational and punkier vibe. If you follow the Total Punk / Pelican Pow Wow world, particularly the New Orleans bands, I think there's a good chance you'll like this a lot as well.
