While there’s a clear nod to late 70s poppy post punk groups like AU PAIRS and RAINCOATS, there’s also moments of PYLON-esque new wave, and some straight up faster punk. Ash’s lyrics range from tongue-in-cheek takes on gym culture and spending too much time on the internet to more scathing declarations aimed at juvenile incarceration and systematic abuse.
