Aihotz: Matar Al Superhombre 7"
After their demo debut, this Bilbao combo comes back with some psicodelic and distorted direct punk around 6 new songs on a 7" called MATAR AL SUPERHOMBRE. More mature sound than their demo and more crazy sound added to the sharp songs, more fast drums, more elaborate guitar riffs, more strong bass lines on with psicodelic reverb and sounds added to the vocals. This could be the punk made in a future travel from the 70s by some punks high on LSD. A modern example of how punk could experiment beyond the instruments and using the vocals as another instrument.
Our take: The long-running Spanish label Discos Enfermos brings us the debut vinyl release from this new punk band from Bilbao, Spain. Aihotz has an interesting and unique sound, mixing hardcore and pogo punk with spacey synth elements that are an unexpected touch for either style. A track like āHumana Esperanzaā might remind you of Exotica or La Misma at first, but halfway through the song Aihotz drops into a half-time part, turns the delay knobs up to 10, and by the end of the track the bass player has wandered off onto a solo odyssey. While Aihotzās hardcore parts may not have the brute strength of bands who make that style their sole focus, I love that you never know what the next moment of Matar Al Superhombre will bring. I recommend you give this band a shot if youāre into the adventurous punk sounds on labels like Iron Lung and Toxic State.
