Words like accessible and Sun Ra aren’t usually seen in the same sentence, however 1978 release ‘Lanquidity’ marks a rare point in the genius’ spiralling discography that doesn’t actually represent too much of a challenge for the listener. Whilst indisputably freeform, an infusion of funk, soul and disco produce a more approachable listen. Tinkering piano keys and a meandering sax underpin the ice-cold title track 'Lanquidity' whilst trumpets blown from the soul give 'Where Pathways Meet' a cheeky swagger. More than the sum of its parts this landmark release marks a perfect entry point for anyone curious about the mythical Ra.
